Restless Heart

by Malcolm Guite

This is a song Malcolm says he wrote "with Saint Augustine". Saint Augustine meets Gram Parsons.

I've got somebody to wake me up,
I've got somebody else to fill up my cup,
I've got a whole team of people taking my mind apart,
I've got a man on the marketplace making my bids,
I've got a woman round the block looking after my kids,
But I ain't got nobody to rock my restless heart.

Well it's a heart that's been through too many changes.
It's my heart, but it feels just like a stranger's.
It's my heart, but its worn,
Into pieces and its being torn
Between a man on a cross and a baby in a manger.

I've got somebody to fetch my pills,
I've got a qualified doctor looking after my ills.
I've got a plan for my life, but I knew it wouldn't work from the start.
I've got a nasty reputation for following trends,
Plenty of enemies, plenty of friends,
But I ain't got nobody to rock my restless heart

Well it's a heart that's been through too many changes.
It's my heart, but it feels just like a stranger's.
It's my heart, but its worn,
Into pieces and its being torn
Between a man on a cross and a baby in a manger.
